    Go-to winter trousers

    I purchased these trousers specifically for winter mountaineering. I recently spent three days in Scotland, in snow, rain, hail and the usual winter conditions we seek out. I wore these trousers for those three days and they were faultless. I have purchased many different makes of trouser over the years, looking especially for a good fit, some stretch when scrambling and breathability. The Dynamic XT ticked those boxes. These trousers spent some of the three days on the hill underneath a pair of heavyweight shell trousers. At the end of each day, and in those full-on winter conditions, I was dry, the trousers had only the merest of dampness on the outer layer (from venting sweat to my shell trousers) and I had been completely comfortable on all terrains. There was no odour despite three days of hard work too. Overall, the trousers offer excellent functionality, and the three secure pockets and breathable mesh vents in particular worked well; the crampon patches will be invaluable, and overall they are excellent value for money. They are in my 'go to' category for the next winter trip. Being 180cms tall and weighing 75kgs, I found the Medium size to be a perfect fit.

    Montane Men's Dynamic XT Thermal Mountain Pants

    I bought these winter trousers earlier this year in readiness for MRT and WML training. They have really impressed. Great fit, ease of movement and comfort, plus wind resistance and moisture repellency good. Last week they faced -20 wind chill in the Northern Corries and a night nav in winds gusting 60 mph. Obviously over a base layer and beneath waterproofs. Earlier they were great for moving through technical ground. A pair of braces might be the only optional addition I would request. As an aside I wear the Montane softshell jacket as the upper mid layer - also a terrific product but sadly no pics at this time. First picture with the legendary Pete Hill (centre) on WML.
