Introducing Marie Cheng

Marie Cheng is an all-round outdoor lover and adventurer with a passion for trail and mountain running, hiking and skiing. Born into a background which is still typically under-represented in the outdoors, she discovered her passion for adventure later after a chance ballot to climb Africa’s tallest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro.

However, as her own journey of discovery into the adventure world has shown her, navigating a corporate life living in London is not dissimilar to a day out on the hill – there are lots of highs and lows including a few wrong turns along the way - but that no day is ever wasted. And three and a half years after leaving the big city, Marie now works freelance as an outdoor and running consultant, living and breathing what she loves everyday – running.

Marie is based in Sheffield on the outskirts of the Peak District, and she describes her journey to becoming an aspiring trail and mountain runner as somewhat of a baptism of fire. More used to the occasional frequenting the circuits of the local Saturday Park Run, seeing the local hill runners on in the Peaks inspired her to join a trail running workshop back in 2021 and take on her first ultra mountain race after 9 months.

“Working with and representing a brand is in my view, an extension of who you are. You need to love and trust what the brand does, makes and what they stand for. And what I love about Montane is that they are passionate about inspiring ordinary people like you and I, to go out there and do extraordinary things.

After some experience spent in different hills and mountains across the world over the years, you quickly learn weather and terrain is a big consideration when planning an adventure. Even more so with weather as temperamental as in the UK!

By being able to minimise the impact of bad weather on our adventures through the choice of kit that we have on our backs, it means not only that our adventures don’t have to stop but that we also feel just that much more secure about committing to plans that may have seemed a bit too much. And that’s what you get with the Montane kit - kit that you can trust without compromising your goals.”
