Introducing Emma Powell

Emma is in her early twenties and has climbed for well over a decade, transitioning through disciplines and competing nationally since she was 9 until finding her true passion - ice climbing - in 2011.

Within a year on the tools, she became a member of the GB Ice Climbing team (currently ranked 1st in the UK) and has competed in the UIAA World Youth Ice Climbing Championships five times already. Amongst this, she manages to climb outdoors prodigiously and has the youngest female ascent on Fast and Furious (D10). Emma regularly tours both domestically and abroad.

"I am excited by the opportunity to work with Montane. I am keen to use their products in my niche field of climbing and to represent the brand."
~ Emma

By her own admission, Emma only started climbing at age 7 as it was the only thing that could burn off her excess energy. Its meditative quality allows her to ‘zone out’ and clear her mind whilst spending time with her Dad – the one who got her into climbing in the first place. By the age of 13 she was onsighting 7c sport and V8 boulder routes.

Fast forward over 10 years and Emma is gripped by the spirit of competition. Competing for the GB team combines the famed social aspect of climbing with an invigoratingly competitive environment. This competitive nature is galvanised by sorties outdoors.
