I bought this pack for a multiday fastpacking adventure in Scotland. I could fit everything I needed for bivvying outside and general survival in the Scottish wilderness. The pockets are well designed. I like the roll top closure of the main compartment. I put a dry bag inside it, as I was using it in Scotland with a wet forecast, so I have no idea how water resistant the fabric of the pack is. It is light but also appears to be quite durable. However there are a few things which are really annoying.
The chest straps are elasticated, which means they don't hold in the position I set them at, when I start running. Any degree of bounce makes them come loose within seconds. I had to tie a knot in them about 200m into my first run with the pack, defeating the whole point in having adjustable straps, as now I can only adjust them to account for more/less layers of clothing with extreme difficulty. They need to be made of non-elasticated webbing, as on my other packs, which hold in place far more securely. There is no need for elasticated chest straps. Anything across the chest that has more stretch than a sports bra is pointless.
I had to buy this pack, as the women's trailblazer packs of similar capacity are more than double the weight of this one and I needed everything to be as light weight as possible. It would appear that Montane don't believe that women are capable of fastpacking, or they would have a womens specific Trailblazer LT pack. This matters because…

Light, good volume for summer fast packing and carries 5Kg comfortably, but like other reviewers have said, the chest straps are useless. Test run of 4.5 miles with 5Kg of wild camping kit for fast packing UK long distance paths, the chest straps have to be constantly re-tightened. The waist strap stays put and the shoulder adjustment straps are mostly good too, but as the chest straps loosen all the damn time, you find yourself constantly adjusting the chest and shoulders. I own the trailblazer 44 too and it has the same problem, which I have modded to loop the elastic chest straps back on themselves and use an accessory Carabiner to clip it back on itself.

I'm sorry to hear of the issue with the chest straps. I have passed this feedback onto our design and development team. If you require some replacement straps please could you contact us at helpdesk@montane.com? - AAlexI recommend this productRated 4 out of 5 stars1 year agoAlmost there
Can't fault the weight of the bag and the large side pockets are excellent and made eating on the move alot easier. The weight of the pack seems to sit a bit further back than my previous trailblazer rucksack which felt a bit odd to begin with but I got used to it. The pack was very comfortable to run with. However, the chest straps are not first for purpose, they loosen after just a few minutes and I must have tightened them >100 times in a 6 hour run. I had tried looping them back on themselves but this makes it a pain in the ass to take the pack off, particularly with gloves or mitts on. I have now resorted to stapling the strap so they are now non-adjustable which gives me no flexibility but at least I don't have to keep re-tightening them. If the chest strap issue is fixed then the bag would be a clear 5 star.
